The PlayStation blog has an update on Sony’s upcoming action-RPG, Ruin, which will be playable on both the PlayStation 3 as well as the Vita. In Ruin, players can create lairs, which are linked directly to their characters. Lairs can be customized and outfitted with both decorative pieces as well as offensive and defensive systems.
By placing relics in your lair, you can boost your character’s defensive and offensive abilities through the bonuses they grant. Where in the lair you place them also has an effect on the bonuses they grant. For example, placing a Poison Ivy Trophy relic in the armoury grants poison damage to any weapons you use. However, if you put it in the beastiary, it will grant poison damage to monsters in your lair.
Your lair also has a bearing on your character’s visual appearance, which is how you figure out what relics another player has, and if you want to battle them for it, you can issue a challenge by betting an item of your own, following which both players will try to attack each other’s lairs over the next 24 hours. At the end of the challenge, the player with the higher score will receive both items.
You can also customize the physical layout and visual style of your lair itself, although this hasn’t been detailed so far. Lair areas revealed so far are the armoury, beastiary and library.
Ruin is still early in development and will be playable on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. No release date has been announced for the game so far.
