A Heads Up For Our Community Before Tokyo Game Show

Recommended Videos

With Tokyo Game Show right around the corner, there’s going to be a lot of excitement in the air this coming week. Excitement is great.

TGS is a celebration of games, and it should be treated as such. We’re excited to be covering it, too, and hopefully, we’ll all have new things to look forward to after this week.

What isn’t great is when a select few people ruin everyone else’s fun by being overly selfish or negative. People that constantly complain when a game isn’t being released on their favourite console of choice; people that attack other commenters for their taste in games. Thankfully, Siliconera is mostly devoid of these types, save for the tiny few that don’t know when to stop.

That said, before we speed into TGS full throttle, I’d like everyone to please read our community rules. If you’re new around these parts (welcome!) and you’ve never seen them before, now’s a good time to brush up on them. They aren’t overly complicated. They’re just guidelines for basic courtesy.

I’d also like to give everyone a heads up that during TGS week, we’re going to be a little bit stricter with community moderation. Most of our community should be completely unaffected by this, since we have a lot of thoughtful and reasonable commenters. That said, throughout next week, we’re going to immediately ban anyone that:

1. Complains about X game being on Y console.

2. Insults another commenter for liking something that they don’t.

3. Breaks any of the other rules in the post linked to above.

We’re usually pretty lenient and hand out a warning or two before resorting to actually banning someone from posting, but we won’t have the time for that while TGS is going on. We’d rather concentrate on bringing news to our readers. At the same time, though, we don’t want the few troublemakers clogging the comments with senseless complaints and ruining everybody’s fun. Let’s keep it clean and enjoy the event!

Oh, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below. I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability!
