More Spectrobes means more money for Jupiter

spectrobes2.jpgAs we saw from a Tokyo Game Show teaser Disney Interactive is developing a follow up to Spectrobes and today it has a name, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals. On top of collecting fossilized creatures with Rallen, Jeena, the data collection specialist from the first game is a playable character. More creatures and Nintendo Wi-Fi battles are likely to appeal to the young demographic Spectrobes is targeting.

Even if you’re not a fan of Disney’s project a new Spectrobes game isn’t a bad thing. Jupiter is once again guiding the franchise by developing Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals and that means the Kyoto based developer is getting a big paycheck. Hopefully, funds from Square Enix and Disney Interactive will allow them to bankroll an original project with some awesome anime style artwork in the future.

In case you are a Spectrobes fan Disney seems bent on making many more Spectrobes games. Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing at Disney Interactive Studios says, “This second game is part of our plan to expand the series in the coming years.” Speaking of the second game it’s interesting to note the transparent touch screen cards that made original game unique aren’t mentioned at all in the announcement for Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals. We’ll see if Disney Interactive has throws in more collectable cards when Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals comes out this fall.
