In order to combine job skills, you’ll need to level up a character in a job to unlock its skills. Once an skill is unlocked, it can then be used after a job change by purchasing it with Cogs. To change a character’s job, simply swap out their weapon for one in the new job. Snipers use rifles, Reapers use SMGs, Boomers use rocket launchers, Brawlers use hammers, Engineers use pistols and Flankers use shotguns.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Sniper Job in SteamWorld Heist 2

The Sniper job in SteamWorld Heist 2 excels in long-range attacks from cover, ideally hiding behind cover. This is where the Boomer’s Fortify skill can be a huge help, as it strengthens any cover you hide behind. This skill will be able to keep you hiding for longer and prevent your cover being blown.

Sometimes it’s not always possible to reach cover, which can be a huge problem for Snipers. The best counter to this problem is the Build Cover skill from the Engineer job. This is a Free Action that allows you to place cover wherever you like, which is a huge benefit to the Sniper.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Reaper Job

The Reaper is an effective damage-dealing job in SteamWorld Heist 2, and the skill combinations that work best for these bots make them much more effective at getting into dangerous situations and surviving. This is why a Reaper hugely benefits from the Brawler’s Hard Shell skill. Reapers are likely to need to get close to the fray, so the armor afforded by this skill keeps them from getting scrapped too soon.

Another beneficial skill for the Reaper is the ability to get out of danger if necessary. This is where the Flanker skill Sidestep can come in handy, as it allows an instant teleport to another spot as a Free Action.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Boomer Job in SteamWorld Heist 2

The Boomer job in SteamWorld Heist 2 is all about throwing explosives around. Distance and cover are important to them, which is why Blast Shield is an effective skill from them, taken from the Brawler job. This reduces damages from explosions to 1, so even if your shots go awry, you won’t be taking yourself out in the process.

Due to how much you’ll likely be staying out of the fray and throwing out explosives from afar, one skill that will be a huge help for Boomers is Focus from the Sniper job. While you’ll already be looking to do a lot of damage, this will enhance that as you stay in an advantageous position.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Brawler Job

Brawlers are the tanks of SteamWorld Heist 2, and the ideal skill combinations for this job all involve bringing out the best in their close-range fighting style. However, one move that will benefit the Brawler above all else is the Flanker’s Cool skill. This reduces all your cooldowns by 1, which means you’ll be able to do Charge attacks much more often.

Since the Brawler needs to be up close and personal with their foes, there’s another Flanker skill that will be a huge help. Nimble Feet adds one point to your movement, making it easier to get close and throw out the devastating melee attacks you need. An alternative here is Greased Up, from the Engineer job, which offers additional movement when going through doors.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Engineer Job in SteamWorld Heist 2

The Engineer is primarily a support job in SteamWorld Heist 2, offering boosts and healing to allies, while dealing small amounts of damage with their pistol. Naturally, they are not frontline fighters and want to keep enemies away from them. This is where the Boomer’s Mines skill can be useful, as melee units that approach you will be discouraged by the inevitable explosion this skill will cause.

Since the Engineer’s only weapon is a pistol, it can be difficult to do damage. The double shot is useful but it’s not much use if you’re missing a lot. This is why giving an Engineer the Perfect Aim skill earned from Sniper can address this problem. This skill will improve your accuracy by adding a full aimline and reduce your arm sway, making the pistol much more useful.

Effective Skill Combinations for the Flanker Job

The Flanker job in SteamWorld Heist 2 is a close-range fighter, and so the best combinations for them are those that turn damage done to them into a strength. The best option for this is the Brawler’s Payback skill, which causes you to do more damage on your next turn after you’re damaged.

Taking this even further is the Rage skill, earned through the Reaper job. In addition to the additional damage done by the Payback skill, Rage will now stack extra damage when you’re on low health, making the Flanker even deadlier.

SteamWorld Heist 2 is out now for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
