Bandai announced that it will be bringing back the Tamagotchi Connection virtual pet, which debuted in March 2004 in Japan, in July 2024. Pre-orders are now open on Amazon for the $29.99 toy.
As a reminder, the Tamagotchi Connection was notable for being the first installment with a “multiplayer” element. People could use its infrared port to communicate with another person’s Tamagotchi. Their two characters could exchange gifts, play games, or fall in love to result in each player getting a new baby via their eggs. That installment was also the first to involve a training function that extended beyond the typical discipline option from earlier models.
While there is a multiplayer element to it, someone doesn’t need to find another person to play with. This model still allows someone to find a partner for their virtual pet and get a new baby character.
This isn’t the only Tamagotchi virtual pet that will launch in July 2024. There will be two Hello Kitty variants. One will be a new Hello Kitty Tamagotchi Nano model. The other will be a Hello Kitty Tamagotchi Uni that can be worn in the same fashion as a smartwatch.
The Tamagotchi Connection 20th anniversary rerelease will occur in July 2024 outside Japan.
