Where to find Wakestones in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The good news is that Wakestone shards, which combine in 3’s to make full Wakestones, are everywhere. The bad news is they can be anywhere, including quest rewards, chests dotted around town, or secreted away in dungeons. This makes it hard to get solid directions to them, but often, you will find enough for a full stone or two just from your usual exploring.

Ibrahim’s Scrap Store in Bakbattahl and the occasional merchant found on the road will sometimes sell a shard for 5000 gold, but considering you’d need 3 of them, it’s likely not worth it unless you’re really stocking up. You can also purchase them from the microtransaction store, but we also don’t recommend that because, thankfully, there’s an item that makes Wakestone shards much easier to find.

How to obtain the Dragon’s Gaze in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

There is an item hidden away in Dragon’s Dogma 2 called the Dragon’s Gaze that allows you to see Wakestone shards marked on your map. To obtain this item, all you need is access to Vernworth Castle and then make your way to the second floor. Between the Guest Chambers and the Magistrate’s Office is an unmarked passageway containing a lift mechanism that will take you to the top of the castle’s main tower.

You can also make your way up the traditional way, for there are a few scattered chests hidden about the ascent, so just be careful to avoid missing floorboards on the stairs. Once you reach where the elevator stops, there will be one more set of stairs to ascend before you enter a room with three chests. You should loot all of them, of course, but the Dragon’s Gaze will be in the more ornate chest opposite where you emerge.

Using it will bring up a brief tutorial showing you how the item can be used to reveal Wakestone shards on the map, although only for the surrounding area. For instance, all the shards in Vernworth will be shown if you use it immediately, but if the markers disappear or you move to another area, you will need to use the Dragon’s Gaze again. The item does not have charges and can be used repeatedly, so feel free to give it a try any time you enter a new area to help in your hunt for Wakestone shards in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
