Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combat is multifaceted. To really deal damage, you first basically need to break foes. That means you need to know how to pressure, then stagger, an enemy in FFVII Rebirth to deal real damage.

How do I pressure an enemy in FFVII Rebirth?

Okay, so I feel like pressure is really only a thing that will come during a fight with a Fiend Intel enemy or boss in FFVII Rebirth, so it may take you longer to figure out how to do it. This is because many of the ordinary foes you’ll encounter in the field aren’t much a threat. Those fights go quickly, especially if you have Tifa or Yuffie causing the stagger gauge to plummet.

The best way I found to pressure an enemy is to exploit their weaknesses or block and dodge their attacks. This means that Yuffie could be your best friend. You can use her Ninjutsu ability to shift the element of her standard attack to Fire, Ice, Lightning, or Wind to exploit a weakness. Throw her shuriken, mash the attack button with square, and that should really help. Couple that with her Doppelganger ability, and she can be unleashing a ton of attacks to ideally cause the foe to enter that pressured state.

Since another method is also dodging, like I said before, you should be ready to use Yuffie’s Brumal Form. This ability lets her disappear to dodge temporarily. Since sometimes it might be hard to time otherwise, using this helps better guarantee you won’t get hit and hopefully apply pressure.

As there’s no visible gauge for pressure, like with staggering, it can be difficult to tell if you’re being successful! But keep hitting weaknesses and either evading or defending!

How do I stagger an enemy in FFVII Rebirth?

Basically, any time you hit an enemy you affect the gauge that determines if they’ll temporarily be “broken,” stunned, and susceptible to attacks. However, what you want to do is have someone around who attacks at a really high rate to make it happen as quickly as possible.

This means I’d recommend using Barret, Tifa, or Yuffie to get that gauge under an enemy’s HP bar filled up. All three can attack at an incredibly swift rate. Tifa is best for on-the-ground foes. Barret is best for aerial ones. Yuffie is great for fast-moving enemies, since you can toss the shuriken and then button mash while it is “attached” to them.

Also, an enemy who you successfully were able to pressure will be easier to stagger!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available on the PS5, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.
