In a new IGN interview with Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, he detailed some elements of the new Shadow of the Erdtree DLC map and area that will appear in the game in June 2024. It will be a new space about the same size as Limgrave. [Thanks, IGN!]
Here is the exact statement Miyazaki provided when discussing what The Land of Shadow will involve in Elden Ring:
First of all, the setting of Shadow of the Erdtree is a brand new land. It’s a brand new map separate from the Lands Between. It is a land that is overshadowed by the particular Shadow of the Erdtree as opposed to the Erdtree in the Lands Between. And it takes place, again, on an entirely separate, physically separate map. So it will involve a warp of sorts to get there.
In terms of setting and themes, it technically occupies the same space as the Lands Between, the same universe. But due to something story related that we won’t reveal today, this has become physically disconnected, and you’ll travel to the Shadow of the Erdtree land as a separate place.

He also noted that Queen Marika and Miquella’s visits to the Land of Shadow will also affect and shape players’ adventure in the DLC. He noted small, medium, and large “legacy dungeons” will appear on the open world map, much like in the base game.
To help provide some additional context for about how big the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC map may be, I highlighted the Limgrave area of Elden Ring in this screenshot taken from the MapGenie.io interactive map for the game.
Elden Ring is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expansion will arrive on June 21, 2024.
