Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a bit of a tease when it comes to the piano playing minigame, as you’ll see it in the FFVII demo and Nibelheim flashback in the introduction, but then it disappears for a bit. Here’s how to start playing again.

When and where can I play the FFVII Rebirth piano rhythm minigame?

Well, you initially get to play the piano for the first time in Cloud’s Nibelheim flashback at the very beginning of FFVII Rebirth. Going to Tifa’s house and her bedroom will let you use her instrument. However, this isn’t really the full-fledged minigame. You don’t have any sheet music, and you can only experiment with the free play version of the game.

However, the real minigame doesn’t open up until you have gotten to the Junon region and completed more of the campaign. Once you get to the Main Scenario mission Priscilla’s Plan, you’ll be able to gain access to the Crow’s Nest village. This happens right around when you can take the “When Words Won’t Do” sidequest for Rhonda and escort Salmon the dog to her son Dillon, who happens to be living there.

Once at the settlement, head to the building where you can see the piano icon on the map. I circled it in the screenshot below:

There are six pieces you can collect from visiting pianos at various cities and towns in FFVII Rebirth. Playing them, then telling Dorian what rank you got on the track in the rhythm game, will net you a reward. So, for example, at Crow’s Nest you’ll find the “On Our Way” sheet music. Then at Costa del Sol, you’ll get “Tifa’s Theme,” and so on.

You can also take part in free-play sessions at any piano, as well as switch between Cloud and Tifa as the pianist.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available on the PS5, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.
