The popularity of Final Fantasy VII is so huge that an entire subgenre of the series spawned around it. So, what games and movies are available in the compilation of Final Fantasy VII for those who want to tackle everything?
What is the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII?
Before we dive in, it’s important to keep in mind that, technically speaking, the original Final Fantasy VII and its spinoffs aren’t necessarily in the same canon as the Remake trilogy.
While the remakes certainly expand with information from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, they are now the current canon, and any contradictions are intentional.

Some notes on the above. While Before Crisis is unavailable to play in 2024, the plot of that game is present in Ever Crisis. An animated movie called Last Order: Final Fantasy VII was released in 2005. Even before the remake, other Final Fantasy VII content extensively contradicted it, leading to its rare inclusion in current lists of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.
Additionally, there are a couple of books you can read for even more content if you’re hungry for it. Kazushige Nojima wrote a series of short stories titled On a Way to Smile to promote Advent Children Complete. Nojima also penned Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story, a novel set just before Advent Children. For the remake trilogy, Nojima authored Final Fantasy VII Remake: Trace of Two Pasts. This novel dives into the backstories of Aerith and Tifa.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024.
