Upon completing the Version 4.4 Lantern Rite event in Genshin Impact, players can receive a free four-star Liyue character of their choosing. This guide will help you to decide which character to get or which Constellation you should unlock.
As of the time of writing, the “Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze” event has not yet gone live in Genshin Impact. However, this is not the first time that HoYoVerse gave players the chance to pick a character of their liking. So, like previous events, you will likely only be allowed to extend an invitation after you complete the story and gain event points from minigames.
Which Genshin Impact character should you choose from Lantern Rite 2024?
- Beidou
Beidou’s counter-focused battle style is rewarding to master and she has great off-field Electro DMG and application. However, counters make her difficult to use as a DPS in high-level content and she needs a battery due to how expensive her Burst is. At that point, you might as well just use Fischl instead. Her C2 and C6 are her best Constellations. - Chongyun
Chongyun can infuse allies with Cryo, as well as buff ATK SPD. He has a very cheap Burst, which makes him a good Burst-oriented on-field DPS. However, outside of niche builds, it can be hard to utilize his Cryo infusion. His C1 and C2 are his best Constellations. - Gaming
Though new, Gaming has proven himself a remarkably powerful DPS character for a 4-star. He has high stats, can synergize very well with Pyro-based Reactions, and is self-sufficient. His only downside is that he can only deal Pyro DMG once per Skill or Burst. However, his Skill has such a short CD that it’s hard to notice it. All of his Constellations are good, but his C6 is the best one. - Ningguang
Like Beidou, Ningguang’s slow Normal Attacks makes her hard to master, but she’s very rewarding once you do. She has an extremely powerful Burst and is a good Geo support with her Jade Screen. Her C2 is her most useful Constellation since it’ll reset her Jade Screen’s CD after it breaks. You can walk through it to get her Geo buff, use her Burst to break the Jade Screen, and then use it again to protect yourself from ranged attacks. - Xiangling
Xiangling is one of the best Pyro support characters in the game due to her Burst’s high Pyro application. Unfortunately, her Skill is very unreliable and difficult to aim, which can make getting her Energy back a chore if you don’t have enough ER on her. Xiangling’s C4 is her best one, since it increases how long her Pyronado can last for.
- Xingqiu
Before Furina’s debut, there were jokes online about how Xingqiu is the true Hydro Archon because of how good his Hydro application is. He can facilitate Hydro Reactions, heal, and shield, making him an incredibly useful character. A major downside to him is that he has a very long Skill CD, which you can manage with Sacrificial Sword but at the cost of losing out on his Burst’s insane Hydro DMG. His C6 is his best Constellation. - Xinyan
Xinyan is one of the few characters who can boost Physical DMG. She is also a shielder, which means you can run her with squishier characters like Ganyu. However, Xinyan doesn’t do very well against single targets and there are better shielders in the game. Her Physical DMG boost is also not that useful since Physical is fairly weak in Genshin. Her C2 is her best Constellation. - Yanfei
Yanfei is a really good Pyro DPS character, but the way she works can make it hard for her to trigger Elemental Reactions if you put her in the wrong team. Her C1 and C6 will make her easier to use, with C1 decreasing her Charged Attack stamina cost and her C6 increasing her DPS. - Yaoyao
Yaoyao is really good at Dendro application and healing, which makes her a great support in teams that rely on Dendro Reactions. However, it’s very costly for her to use her Burst and it will end as soon as she leaves the field. I personally find Yaoyao much easier to use in co-op than in solo play. Her C6 is her best Constellation. - Yun Jin
Like Beidou, Yun Jin has a more counter-oriented battle style, and she is able to boost Normal ATK DMG with her Burst. This makes her a very useful support unit for DPS characters like Wanderer. Unfortunately, her Burst’s buff can only activate for a limited number of times and it depletes every time an enemy is hit, rather than how many times you use your Normal Attack. This means her Burst can run out very quickly against large hordes.
While everyone has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, some are a lot more useful than others. If you’re a beginner who doesn’t have any of these characters, you should go for Gaming, Xingqiu, or Xiangling. If you have them all, but want Constellations, you should go for Yun Jin, Yaoyao, or, again, Gaming. Since the Lantern Rite only comes once a year in Genshin Impact, make sure you choose a character you won’t regret.
