HoYoverse shared a new Honkai: Star Rail video, this time giving a look behind the scenes of design of the new Penacony world and the 2.0 update. While the trailer does give genuine insight to the developer’s design ethos, there is also a humorous tone as the straight-faced interviewer asks increasingly irrelevent questions.
The video begins with a discussion with writer Shaoji about the origins of Penacony, which was originally a penal colony before it became a dream-powered hotel. Shaoji emphasises the contrast between the luxurious dreamscape and the rough past, and notes that the area was originally going to be based on Victorian England and steampunk aesthetics before they settled on Jazz-age theming. Later on, we see comments from concept artist Nio, game designer Dr. Orange, environment artist Baiyu, and gameplay designer Punk. The developers discuss everything from nausea induced by designing optical illusions to the team’s obsession with trash cans.
