Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequels are perhaps the best examples of using Marvel characters in a video game. Therefore, Let’s look at a few Marvel characters that we think need their own game in Insomniac’s PlayStation universe.
Marvel characters we want to see in Insomniac’s universe
While a Wolverine game is on the horizon and more Spidey heroes and villains are likely in store for future Marvel’s Spider-Man titles, I want to look outside of that at heroes who need to have new video games. Keep in mind, I don’t necessarily think Insomniac needs to make all these games, but I do think they should exist in the world they’ve created.
Captain America
We know The Avengers exist in the Insomniac universe, but we never see them. Of all The Avengers, I’d love to see a game focusing on Captain America. We got a tie-in game way back when the first movie dropped that was okay, but they could do so much more.
I’d like to see Cap on some of his espionage missions, maybe even incorporate some stealth elements. Something beyond a Captain America beat-em-up game.
Ghost Rider
I feel the opposite about Ghost Rider. I say throw this character into a Devil May Cry-style action game and just let it ride. And then, literally, let it ride with some vehicular sections. Since there’s not been a lot of Ghost Rider in the public conscience lately, I think a videogame would be a great way to revitalize this character.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange has such a unique powerset that almost screams, “Make me a videogame.” We got a small taste of this in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, during a mission where Miles and Black Cat jump through portals, taking their chase worldwide.
This could be a lot of fun translated into a full experience, and the combat could be a blend between an action and puzzle game. Since we know Doctor Strange is around in Insomniac’s universe, we’re maybe closer to this one than some of the others on this list.
Moon Knight
Moon Knight is basically like a Marvel Batman with Egyptian lore. This game could easily be an open-world game like Arkham City. It doesn’t even need to take place in New York fully, but maybe Spidey could make an appearance. His different personalities could represent the different branches of the skill tree; seriously, this writes itself.
Blade
Despite a trilogy of movies, an upcoming show, and plenty of pop culture significance, there hasn’t been a Blade videogame in a long time. Now, I should say this one will be a reality soon. Bethesda’s Arkane Lyon studio is creating a Blade game. While we don’t know for sure yet, it will probably not share a universe with Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Perhaps, down the road, the paths may overlap, though. It would be fun to see them team up against Morbious or Hunger. Although, both of those characters have become…a bit tainted after the movie flop.
Ant Man
There are so many fun things you could do with Ant Man in a video game. Some unique puzzle gameplay comes to mind, but even combat could be fun if you’re fighting in multiple sizes; the train set battle at the end of the first movie is an example. Given the right writer, I think we could also see a fun and inventive plotline. They could go in multiple directions, depending on which version of Ant Man they focus on.
Daredevil
This is my pick for the most deserving Marvel character to get an Insomniac game. They could even introduce him as a supporting character in one of the Spider-Man titles! Daredevil could have more brutal combat then Spidey, but it could also incorporate the Matt Murdock legal side of the character.
Imagine a brutal Arkham-esque combat system, then Phoenix Wright-style legal proceedings in the same game. Set in a darker Hell’s Kitchen than we’ve ever seen from Spider-Man. Plus, it’d be a great excuse to see a return of the Marvel’s Spider-Man version of Kingpin.
What do you think? What Marvel heroes (or villains) do you think need a game in Insomniac’s PlayStation universe?
