Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, and that even includes Apple’s own Mac products. However, this version of the game is behind the other platforms in terms of content. This may have Mac users wondering when BG3 Patch 5 is coming to a computer near them.
BG3 Patch 5 Mac Release Explained
At the time of writing this post, there is no known release date for the Mac version of BG3 Patch 5. Unfortunately, Larian hasn’t been very communicative about this particular version of the award-winning RPG, likely because of the smaller but passionate community there. However, what is known is that the Mac version isn’t on the same level as Windows PC and consoles.
While everywhere else has Patch 5 already, including the recently released Xbox version, Mac doesn’t have that. In fact, it doesn’t even have the previous two hotfixes that are on the other platforms. It is quite behind in terms of content, but not all hope is lost.
While we don’t know the release date for Patch 5 on Mac, we do know Larian is working on it. As noted on Reddit, the studio is currently hiring for several Mac senior programmers to work on this version in places like Barcelona, Spain and Dublin, Ireland. It seems the developer is aware of the disparity between this version and the others, and will get on it soon.
Why Is Patch 5 Delayed?
As for why Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 is not available on Mac, there are possibly a couple of reasons for this. For one, there is the fact that this version of the game likely has a much smaller audience than Windows or consoles. But, more importantly, the Xbox version just released. Presumably, a ton of resources and workers focused on that version for release. This potentially took away from time on Mac, but this will, hopefully, change soon.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
