Unfortunately, if you haven’t already snagged a Turbografx-16 Mini, you probably won’t be able to get one for a good while thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. But if you did snag one or one of its regional counterparts, 8BitDo has a snazzy set of controllers on the way. 8BitDo’s line of wireless controllers include three variants, and all three are available for preorder at a $24.99 price point. Currently, the release date is set for May 20, 2020.

Known as the Turbografx-16 in North America, this retro console was called the CoreGrafx in Europe and the PC Engine in Japan. Each iteration had a totally different form factor and color design, which are reflected in these controllers as well.

Despite the logistical issues, early reviews for the TurboGrafx-16 Mini have largely been positive. This is a more curious library of games, but the units come with the Japanese PC Engine games as well, so you can access classics like Snatcher and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Other familiar IP here include BonkBomberman and even Ys, but it’s more likely the TurboGrafx-16 Mini has more of a discovery factor than say, the more predictable Nintendo mini consoles.

The 8BitDo Turbografx-16 wireless controllers will launch on May 20, 2020.

Lucas writes about video games a lot and is a former Siliconera editor. Sometimes he plays them. Every now and then he enjoys one. To get on his good side, say nice things about Dragon Quest and Musou. Never mention the Devil May Cry reboot in his presence. Backed Bloodstained on Kickstarter but all his opinions on it are correct regardless.
