It’s common practice that if you can’t find what you’re looking for on Crunchyroll, you pivot to HIDIVE — and vice-versa — before resorting to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and other less affordable subscriptions. The site experienced a surge in popularity in recent years, which prompted the streaming service to offer HIDIVE exclusive anime in order to match its competitors. There are a lot of shows to enjoy, but we took the liberty of narrowing down HIDIVE anime to recommend.

The Eminence in Shadow
In modern-day Japan, a young boy desires to harness the power of the shadows, but suddenly dies after being hit by a truck. He is reincarnated as Cid Kagenou in a strange new world, where he blends in with an unassuming appearance to achieve his goal of manipulating from the shadows. He crosses paths with an elven girl suffering from a debilitating disease and cures her. Cid fabricates a story about how the world they live in is secretly overrun by sinister forces known as the Cult of Diablos. Additionally, he claims that his secret organization, the “Shadow Garden,” are the only ones capable of defeating the cult. The elven girl, named Alpha, joins the Shadow Garden and begins recruiting new members while Cid continues fighting the Cut of Diablos under the alias of “Shadow.”

Ya Boy Kongming!
The plot of Ya Boy Kongming! follows Zhuge Kongming, a military strategist who met his demise in the Battle of Wuzhang Plains in 234 AD. During his final moments, he wished for his next life to be more peaceful. His dying wish is granted as he finds himself reborn in modern Japan, first emerging at a Halloween costume party in the club district of Tokyo. The partygoers lead him to a night club, where he meets aspiring singer Eiko Tsukimi and his second life begins.

Reincarnated as a Sword
One day, a sword awakens to discover that he has been reincarnated from his former life as a human. Using telekinesis, he moves around the environment and strengthens his abilities. When the sword happens upon a young girl fleeing from a beast in the forest, he aids her in slaying the monster. The girl introduces herself as Fran and names the sword “Shishou,” officially declaring herself his wielder. Fran, who’s a member of the Black Cat Tribe, was never destined to become anything more than a low-level beastkin with a poor reputation. She sets out on an adventure to change her fate and achieve her parent’s dream, while Shishou promises to be by her side until this happens. Along the way, the pair forge an unbreakable bond of formidable strength.

Land of the Lustrous
In an alternate reality, mysterious creatures called Gems inhabit a desolate world destroyed by meteors some time prior. Each Gem is assigned a specific role catering to their individual talents in order to fight against the Lunarians, a species who seeks to shatter their bodies and use them as decorations. Phosphophyllite is a young and inexperienced Gem who aspires to join the war, but due to their fragile state, they are instead instructed to compile an encyclopedia. Phos begrudgingly sets out to do so, meeting Cinnabar, another rejected Gem, along the way. Due to the corrosive poison Cinnabar’s body excretes, they are confined to the lonely existence of patrolling the island at night. Phos seeks to find suitable and valuable roles for them both.

Oshi No Ko
It’s common knowledge that celebrities often fabricate their glamorous lives, refusing to be vulnerable in the public eye and reveal their inner struggles. Fans are blinded by these perceptions and shower their idols with undying support. But eventually, some controversial or shocking slip-up shatters the illusion. Ai Hoshino, age 16, is the rising star of pop idol group B Komachi and has the whole world enthralled. However, when she suddenly announces a hiatus due to health concerns, the whole world grows increasingly concerned. One of Ai’s biggest fans, gynecologist Gorou Amemiya, wishes he could meet her in person. Gorou’s wish comes true when Ai shows up at his countryside practice pregnant with twins. That fateful encounter then drastically changes his relationship with her.
