A new series of trailers for 404 Game RE:SET introduced characters teased in the initial announcements. The game itself was first revealed on February 10, 2023 and will involve a collaboration between Sega and NieR creator Yoko Taro. The trailers give players a glimpse at a few of the Sega game titles reincarnated as humanoid characters, including Outrun, Virtua Cop, and Fantasy Zone. [Thanks, Game Watch!]
Four of the 404 Game RE:SET characters previewed in the trailer series were present in the first reveal, but Fantasy Zone is a new addition to the confirmed cast. The trailers give a bit of insight on the character and the “original masterpiece” game that inspired them.
Here’s Outrun Type: Anode, who is voiced by Ai Kakuma (Eris from Mushoku Tensei, Fran from Reincarnated as a Sword). Based on the racing game, Outrun, she takes pride in her speed, saying she’s “faster than anyone or anything.”
Another of the previewed 404 Game RE:SET characters is Afterburner Type: Anode. She’s dutiful and devoted to “protecting everyone,” even if it means hurting them to do so. She’s voiced by Akari Kito (Aiba in AI: The Somnium Files, Erice Utsumi in Fate/Grand Order).
There’s also Virtua Cop Type: Anode, voiced by Aoi Yuuki (Pascal from NieR Automata, Shuten-Douji from Fate/Grand Order). Virtua Cop considered herself “A Dog of Sega,” for whom Sega was “justice itself” and “can’t be wrong.”
Virtua Fighter Type: Anode is voiced by Fairouz Ai (Jolyne in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Power in Chainsaw Man). She seeks strength and believes in effort, and that any dream can be achieved if you work hard and get strong.
The 404 Game RE:SET characters preview also included Fantasy Zone Type: Anode. She’s voiced by Nichika Omori (Yurine in Dropkick on My Devil!, Rain in Darwin’s Game). For her, “money is more precious than anything,” and the “absolute value, the index of happiness.”
404 Game RE:SET is in development for iOS and Android devices. It’ll release in Japan in 2023, and a pre-registration campaign is ongoing.
