By Happy 25th birthday, Final Fantasy! Square Enix released 14 numbered titles, that’s more than one every two years, but how many total Final Fantasy games has Square Enix released in 25 years?
Well, we were curious and put together a chart showing all of the major Final Fantasy releases and ports Square Enix made.

A slight correction was made in 2007, Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode Final Fantasy VII was released at the end of 2006.
A couple notes about this chart:
– Any game with Final Fantasy in its title in Japan was accounted for so we added Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, but didn’t count Final Fantasy Legend since those were really SaGa games. Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy Fortune Street and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy are also included.
– Original games are defined as a brand new title. All numbered titles are "original" and so are spinoffs like Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, and the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series.
– Ports are defined as games that were adapted for new consoles. Final Fantasy IV for PsOne, Wonderswan, Game Boy Advance, DS, PSP, mobile phones, and iOS are ports. We didn’t count Virtual Console or PSN re-releases. The MSX port of Final Fantasy was counted too.
– We included spinoff mobile titles like Final Fantasy VII Snowboarding, Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, and the US only Dirge or Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Lost Episode.
– Square Enix used to release at most two titles a year (one original and one port) until Final Fantasy VII when Final Fantasy explosion happened.
– Square Enix released less Final Fantasy games for the series 25th anniversary compared to the 20th anniversary. That year we had ports of Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy IV, and new titles like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
