Shining Resonance Re:frain had a bit more to introduce regarding new party members Excela and Jenius, who join in the new ‘Refrain Mode’. The two characters received new screenshots, showing off their Force skills, as well as teases for their new events. [Thanks, 4gamer!]

Excela Noa Aura (CV: Nana Mizuki)

Princess of the empire, and a Dragon Master who stands above all Dragon Knights. She commands her own dragon, and wields the Seventh Armonic.

Jenius Aeon:

shiningrefrain3

A lone warrior who hunts dragons without taking a side. His actions and purpose is shrouded in mystery. He is a key character to the story, and his fate is intertwined with Yuma’s.

Force skills:

These are skills that cost MP, instead of the AP that normal attacks use. Here are several of Excela and Jenius’ skills.

Beckoning of Fate

An earth magic that creates a gravity ball in front of Excela, drawing in nearby enemies.

Three-Speared Protection

Invisible Blade

Multiple slices around the enemy that looks like one slash to any commoner.

Invincible Body

Jenius increases his body’s regeneration to heal HP.

Events with Excela and Jenius

Excela and Jenius aren’t supposed to be party members, yet here they are… In towns, you can initiate events with the two of them, who can be found in areas with fewer prying eyes. Yuma is given the ‘Sigil of the Glass Shoe’ and the ‘Sigil of the Full Moon’ respectively. As the journey goes on, Yuma speaks to the two of them about his feelings, with the sigils in hand…

Night Events

Night Events occur in town or at camps, where speaking to a character initiates an event where players can get to know another side to the characters. Players can bond with both female and male characters this way.

The Night Events utilize the M.O.E.S system (Mind Over Emotion System), where at a certain point in dialogue you are given choices with a time limit. Choosing an answer the character likes will increase your bond quite a bit. Of course, letting the timer run out and ‘not responding’, is an answer of its own as well.

Shining Resonance Re:frain will be released on March 29, 2018, for PlayStation 4 in Japan.
