Dragon Quest Builders is an upcoming Minecraft or Terraria-like āblock make RPGā by Square Enix that has plenty of its own Dragon Quest charm. Game Watch shares the latest details on the gameās fundamentals.
Dragon Quest Builders is actually set in a āwhat ifā world, where the hero says āyesā to joining the Dragonlord, which was actually an option given to players in the original Famicom game.
In the NES game, agreeing to join Dragonlord for a share of half the world results in a game over, and Dragon Quest Builders basically takes place in an alternate world that was dominated by the Dragonlord for that reason.
As time passed, a youth appears and stands up against the Dragonlord and his tyranny that has taken over the world, and thatās how the story of Dragon Quest Builders begins.
There are three main elements that will come into play for reviving towns in order to revive the land of Alefgard.
Gather:
In order to create new items, youāll need to defeat enemies and collect the material that drops.
Create:
You canāt bring back towns and villages unless you create new items. This will be done using materials acquired from monsters and gathered from the fields.
Put Together:
With enough resources and items, youāll get to put together new buildings, which will be the first step in making towns.
There are items called āDesign Plansā that lets you easily create buildings, so even if youāre not the best at making buildings block-by-block, you can easily do so using this feature.
Once you find an area where youād like to make your building, the Design Plans will tell you exactly what you need and how to do it. All you need to do is place the blocks the way it shows you, and itāll be complete.
They might start you out with simple designs at first, but youāll get to make some nicer-looking structures as shown in the above image.
There are plenty of familiar monsters that will appear in the game, and theyāll even occasionally form groups and attack your town in order to prevent you from from furthering its development.
Dragon Quest Builders will release in Japan on January 28, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.
