I was playing through the 100 Mario Challenge in Super Mario Maker last night when something special happened. As many may already know, the Nintendo Wii U shares a lot in common with Mario Paint. I’m not just talking about the Fly Swatter minigame. People are also using it to make music.

Which is exactly what happened with a level called “All the costumes unlocked” by a user named Kocobé. It came up as the fourth level of my challenge, and I expected one of those levels where all you do is hit blocks and see Mario dress up.

Instead, I was treated to an impromptu performance of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” I’m sharing the off-screen video of it with you here.

Well done, Kocobé. It goes to show what unorthodox things are possible in Super Mario Maker, which comes to the Wii U on September 11. If you’re playing the game, here’s all of the level information for his creation.
