<< How to read and understand sales

Now that the holidays are over and the Japanese population is back at work and school, videogame sales in the country have slowed. Just as they do every year, sales plummeted during the second week of 2015, with the highest-selling game (Yo-kai Watch 2) selling just 75,000 copies.

While that’s bad news for Japan, it’s good news (sort of) for us, since the top-20 software sales chart for the week saw the return of some older games, and we now know how they’ve been faring since their release. Of particular note is Sentouchuu: Survival Battle with the Legendary Ninjas from Bandai Namco. The game was released in October 2013 and sold less than 45,000 copies sold in its first week. Now, just over a year later, it has sold 350,000 copies, mirroring the success of its predecessor.

Meanwhile, we now know the budget-priced re-release of Grand Theft Auto V on PS3 has sold over 100,000 copies. Considering the original release has sold over 650,000 copies on PlayStation 3, that’s a rather impressive performance for the budget version. Additionally, GTAV has sold another 145,000 copies on PlayStation 4.
