Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Sold Over 3 Million Worldwide In Three Days

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have sold over 3 million copies between Japan, the U.S., and certain other territories in three days, The Pokémon Company has announced.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were released in Japan, U.S., South Korea, Australia (and perhaps other regions) on November 21st. By November 23rd, they had sold 1.5 million copies in Japan and a total of 3.04 million between Japan and other regions combined.

Something that needs pointing out is that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have not yet been released in Europe. That region will get the games on November 28th, so their sales will see another spike soon enough.

In comparison, Pokémon X and Y sold over 4 million copies worldwide in two days. (To be more specific, that figure accounts for two days in all regions, save for Europe, where only one day was counted.)

Given that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes rather than entirely new games, it is impressive to see them doing this well. Perhaps Nintendo were on to something with their Smash Bros. theory. A year from now, it should be interesting to see how sales of ORAS are holding up.
