Dragon Ball: Xenoverse Has Move Cancelling And Talky Fights

Recommended Videos

Dimps, the developer of Street Fighter IV and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, have returned to develop Dragon Ball: Xenoverse.

Bandai Namco showed off a hands-off demo for Dragon Ball: Xenoverse at E3 today, and there were a couple of takeaways from the three fights with Goku I saw. First, you can transform in a stage. Second, the game has canceling. I asked Kashino-san from Dimps if this was the case, which he confirmed. In the demo, you can cancel special moves.

Special moves are done by pressing the d-pad and then square to do a Kamahaeha. X triggers an energy charge. Additionally, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse has dialogue while fights go on. Fights will have voice acting in the final game. Another thing I noticed is that you can go underwater.

I saw a battle between Goku and Frieza. Then Goku vs. Cell, and finally Goku vs. Buu. Siliconera can also confirm Tien is in the game from an interview we did with Hirano-san, the producer of the game.

Bandai Namco talked up graphical upgrades. Characters show facial expressions when they strike an opponent and take damage, similar to the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm series. The game uses Havok and Silicon Studios Yebis2 engine for energy blast particle effects.

The demo ended with a tease showing a futuristic city and a character wearing a Capsule Corp jacket but his face was obscured. This character and background are key to the story, explained a Bandai Namco representative.

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is slated for 2015.
