Initial D fans will recognize the two immediately, as father and son duo Fujiwara Bunta and Takumi are pretty core to the series. Initial D: Perfect Shift Online, a free-to-play Nintendo 3DS game where you control only when you need to shift up and down gears, will feature the two as some of the characters you’ll be able to obtain.
Fujiwara Takumi:
The main protagonist of the show, he’s known as more of a “gut feel” instinctual talent. That doesn’t mean he’s a pushover when training. Before he began to street race, he refined his chops unknowingly when his father made him deliver tofu up to the top of a mountain every night.
The catch? He had a cup of water that he wasn’t allowed to spill a single drop of in the cup holder. As you might guess, he drives a Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX AE86. If you played the beta, you would have picked up this car for free.
Fujiwara Bunta:
This old man might not look it, but he was once king of the Akina downhill races. Now though, he’s just a tofu shop owner. Or is he? His car is the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type R Version V GC8.
It’s still unknown exactly how the card characters and cars will interact currently. It might be that putting the right character into their favored cars will grant bonuses or extra special moves.
We’ll find out soon enough though, as Sega says Initial D: Perfect Shift Online is still on track for a “winter” release on the Nintendo 3DS.
