Spike Shipping More Copies Of Conception II On Vita Than 3DS

Conception II is headed to both the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS, but Spike Chunsoft are shipping more copies of the Vita version to retailers.

Retail blog Sinobi reports that the Vita version’s initial shipment is 60,000 copies while the 3DS version’s shipment is 30,000 copies.

So, why the difference? Likely because the segment of the market that Conception II appeals to has more of a presence on the Vita than on 3DS. The Vita has a greater collection of games that appeal directly to the “otaku” userbase and Conception II fits neatly into that niche. Additionally, the first Conception game was a PSP title, so Spike Chunsoft are probably counting on PSP owners that became early Vita adopters to support the game.

Spike’s promotion thus far has focused largely on the Vita version as well, which makes sense given where they’re focusing the majority of their shipment. It should be interesting to see how sales of Conception II look when the game releases this week.

Given that the first game sold just 30,000 copies at launch and was apparently successful enough to greenlight a sequel, one can assume that Conception II should be okay despite the Vita’s relatively low userbase, with the 3DS version making up for any deficit.
