A Closer Look At How Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D Is Doing In Japan

Last week, Nintendo released Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The game sold 104,569 copies in its first week, topping the weekly software sales chart.

Sales tracker Media Create reports that Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D sold through 54.34% of its shipment. That may sound like a low sell-through rate, but it’s actually more or less in line with the original version of the game on the Wii.

Donkey Kong Country Returns (on Wii) sold 163,310 when it was released back in 2010. That game sold through 56.63% of its shipment, and eventually reached sales of over 970,000 copies by the end of 2012.

Returns’ initial shipment on Wii consisted of 288,380 copies, going by its sell-through percentage. Meanwhile, Returns 3D’s initial shipment should be around 192,434 copies. Despite the fact that it’s a port of an existing game, Returns 3D shouldn’t have too much trouble selling through all those copies in the weeks to come, given the brand’s popularity.
