The upcoming Mirror’s Edge reboot will be an open-world game, says Electronic Arts president Frank Gibeau, according to a Eurogamer report. The game is early in development and will run on DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine.

Additionally, EA Games Label head Patrick Söderlund adds that the game will not be turned into a shooter. That said, the game will be a different experience from the original Mirror’s Edge, which Söderlund feels was more about running away.

"The first game was a lot about running away from things," Söderlund said. "And, even though you want to have sections with that, you also want Faith… she’s a powerful character and you want her to take control. You’ll see a little bit more of that in this game.”

He clarified: "Again, we’re not going to turn this into a shooter. On the contrary, in fact. But we are going to evolve Faith and the story. Once we show more of this people will be genuinely excited. I am personally extremely excited about it."

Mirror’s Edge is in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game has no release date yet, or even a release window.
