The Pokémon Company are bringing the Pokédex to iOS devices in Japan, they announced this morning. Pokédex for iOS looks like it uses the 3D models from Pokédex 3D. Just like Pokédex 3D, you get to view information on the listed Pokémon in six different languages.

The base app will be similar to Pokédex 3D, in that it will only include information on Pokémon from the Unova region. This will cost 170 yen. You can then add the Kanto Dex, Johto Dex, Hoenn Dex and Sinnoh Dex to the app for 500 yen each.

Pokédex for iOS will be released in Japan on November 16th. You can find the app’s official website here.

Note that, while the Pokémon Company is a Nintendo subsidiary, this does not mean Nintendo themselves are developing iOS games or that the Pokémon series is headed to iOS devices. Nintendo have, however, stated in the past that they intend to use other platforms like smartphones and social networks to help promote their own games and devices.

Additionally, The Pokémon Company has the autonomy to promote the Pokémon franchise in the ways they best see fit, so Pokédex for iOS is likely more of a promotional tool, just like the Pokémon “Tap” game.
