<< Last week’s software sales chart

While last week did see the release of a fair few games, sales were relatively slow following the end of the Obon festival and holiday period. Namco Bandai’s Bakemonogatari Portable was the best-selling new release, with 34,500 copies sold on the PSP.

The other notable release for the week was Nippon Ichi Software’s Special Report Division for the PlayStation Vita. This game sold just 7,425 copies.

Meanwhile, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is still in the process of reaching a million copies sold, and should manage the feat by the time we see next week’s sales chart. Sales of the game, however, are lower than those of the original New Super Mario Bros. on Nintendo DS at this point in its life. In a way, this makes sense, given that the DS game was a resurrection of 2D Mario after nearly a decade, but there could be more to it.

Regardless, New Super Mario Bros. 2’s success will be measured over time, as these games tend to sell and sell and sell for years. It will no doubt be a big-seller come this holiday season.

In other 3DS news, Rune Factory 4 and The Little Battlers: Explosive Boost continue to impress with consistent sales. Taiko Drum Master, too, is holding up rather nicely.

Next week’s software sales chart promises to be far more interesting. We’ll get to see how Hatsune Miku Project Diva fDevil Summoner: Soul Hackers, and Senran Kagura Burst: Crimson Girls did in their first week on the market.

The top-20 software sales chart for the week was as follows:
