New Final Fantasy X Will Be An HD Remaster, Not A Remake

Recommended Videos

In September 2011, Square Enix announced at Sony’s PlayStation Vita conference that they would release Final Fantasy X for the Vita and PlayStation 3, to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. At the time, we referred to the game as a “remake”.

This isn’t quite the case. Final Fantasy X will not be a remake, it will be an HD Remaster, similar to other PlayStation 2 titles (the Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry games, for instance) that have been given high-definition PlayStation 3 ports in recent times.

Taiwanese website, Gamer, got the news at the 2012 Taipei Game Show straight from Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto (via FF-Reunion), who told the site: “It’s being developed as an HD Remaster, but the visuals will be much more beautiful than before. Please look forward to it!”

Prior to this, Final Fantasy X producer, Yoshinori Kitase, told M! Games magazine in Germany that Final Fantasy X for Vita and PlayStation 3 is early in development.
