From Software have built a name for themselves in the last two years or so, and it shows. Armored Core V (PS3) was the best-selling new game in Japan last week. It sold close to 164,000 copies in its first week, outselling Armored Core IV by a wide margin.

For reference, Armored Core IV (PS3) sold 39,261 copies in its first week in 2006, so that’s a gigantic improvement. From Software are easily one of the more interesting success stories of late, and it should be interesting to see if they can maintain this success going forward.

At #2 was Resident Evil: Revelations with 146,559 copies sold. There’s no other past title one can directly compare the game to, but we’re curious to see how it holds up in the weeks to come.

The #3 game was Tales of Innocence R, with close to 55,000 copies sold. Considering the PlayStation Vita’s low userbase, that isn’t a bad number. What’s interesting, though, is that Innocence R’s release didn’t make too much of a difference to the Vita’s hardware sales for the week.

Next week will see the release of Ragnarok Odyssey on the Vita, followed by Gravity Rush the week after that. On February 14th, the 3DS will get its next major release in the form of New LovePlus.
