Amongst this year’s “Summer of Arcade” program games on Xbox Live, will be an action RPG titled Bastion. It’s also headed to the PC sometime later in the year. Bastion is the first game from an independent developer named Supergiant Games.
You play as a character known as the Kid, in a world afflicted by a great calamity. Kid has to reconstruct the world and build a save haven. The standout feature, Supergiant say, is a “reactive narration system” which responds to the players actions in realtime, and gradually reveals the game’s story. Bastion apparently features “thousands of lines” of narration, and Supergiant say it won’t be possible to hear them all during your first time through the game.
Customization is present, too. While you can customize and upgrade weapons, you also have the option of customizing how you play the game. You can increase the game’s difficulty in exchange for better rewards. The game will be around 8 – 10 hours in length, and after you complete it, you’ll unlock a New Game Plus mode with more content and ways to play.
Bastion will be released on July 20th for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15) on Xbox Live Arcade by Warner Bros. A PC version will follow later in the year, but a date hasn’t yet been specified.
