More details about Marvelous’ side-scrolling ninja game Kagura: Portrait of Girls are out. Famitsu highlights five playable characters, but instead of movesets the magazine focuses on bust sizes.
Asuka (bust size: 90 cm, voiced by Hitomi Harada) is in her second year at high school. She’s full of energy and has outstanding potential to be a ninja. However, she still has some way to go. Asuka has black hair tied in a ponytail and wears a pleated skirt with knee high socks.
Ikaruga (bust size: 93 cm, voiced by Asami Imai) looks like a Nagisa from Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity sans the eye patch. She’s usually collected and kind, but when her temper fires up you better stay out of her way.
Katsuragi (bust size: 95 cm, voiced by Yuu Kobayashi) has long blonde hair and wears a revealing shirt with open buttons. She has a tendency to harass cute girls.
Yagyuu (bust size: 85 cm, voiced by Kaori Mizuhashi) may only be a freshman, but she’s quite skilled. She wears her gray hair in pigtails.
Hibari (bust size: 80 cm, voiced by Yuka Inokuti) wears a track uniform and tries really hard in school as a first year student. She’s poor in fighting, but skilled in espionage.
Players can change outfits for their characters in the game. Famitsu notes there are a number of accessories and costumes to find. You can view costumes from any camera angle in another mode, which shows Asuka in a bunny suit wearing rabbit ears. Costume destruction is a key part of the game
Gameplay wasn’t explained, but Kagura is a side-scrolling action game with cut-in scenes of the girls in torn costumes. The girls are all students at Hanzo Academy, a special school run by the government that trains ninja to fight evil ninja. Yukinori Kitajima script writer on 428, Okamiden, and Chaos Rings wrote the story for Kagura.
Kenichiro Takaki must love costume damage. He’s the director on Kagura and the Ikki Tousen games from Marvelous. Since Takaki is developing Kagura I’m going to take back what I said earlier. I don’t think this is the 2D game Hashimoto was talking about in our interview. Their game design styles are too different, so I’m expecting this to be more like the PSP Ikki Tousen games.
