At Nintendo’s financial results briefing for the third quarter of their ongoing fiscal year, Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, made mention of an interesting fact: 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Dragon Quest and Zelda franchises.

At the briefing, Iwata revealed to investors, “One of the Wii titles scheduled to be launched this year is, as you know, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  Last year was the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.”

Iwata continued: “This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.  For your information, the year 2011 also marks the 15th anniversary of Pokémon and 25th anniversary of Dragon Quest, among others.”

Notice how Dragon Quest is mentioned alongside a bunch of high-profile first-party Nintendo games? That’s because Dragon Quest X is in development for the Wii, and the last two Dragon Quest games in the U.S. and Europe have been published by Nintendo. Perhaps we’ll finally hear news of Dragon Quest X this year.
