Livly Island is like Neopets for Japan. Players raise a digital pet by feeding it bugs on their browser. Creatures living on Livly Island can fight their natural predators, but the game seems to be more about shopping and customizing their creature’s appearance to make it cute.

Marvelous and So-Net, the owners of the Livly Island intellectual property, are teaming up to make a DS version called Livly Garden. The game is slated for release this winter.

Ishaan took note of the title and discovered Brownie Brown, the developer of Heroes of Mana and Mother 3, is creating the game for Marvelous. Livly Island will be Brownie Brown’s first announced title since Blue Dragon Plus.

Tidbits about developers are nice to know, but I’m more curious about Marvelous’ strategy of adapting popular Internet games into console games. Half-Minute Hero, which was released on the PSP, started life as a flash game.
