Best Romance Anime Worth Watching on Crunchyroll

As a huge romance anime fan myself, I am pretty picky when it comes to these series. The romance, of course, has to be intriguing and enough to make my heart pound. But, at the same time, the characters and writing also need to be equally compelling.

Though some of these series have some frustrating conclusions, I would say these are the 12 best romance anime series worth watching right now on Crunchyroll. Note that they are in no particular order. In addition, these are complete shows, at least with a full season. Sadly, that means no phenomenal series like Senpai is an Otokonoko for now.

  • Fruits Basket: I know I said in no particular order, but this series is by far the best romance anime of all time and among the greatest series in general. It is a must-watch for everyone, with the near-perfect mix of characters, story, romance, and even action at times.
  • Golden Time: This show is, at its heart, a traditional love triangle. But the added twist of the main character’s amnesia adds so much heart-breaking drama to the mix. And it’s surprisingly hilarious, too.
  • Toradora: The spunky nature of the lead girl and her relationship with the main guy is engrossing. If you love tsundere girls, this is the one.
  • The Quintessential Quintuplets: Talk about one of the most ridiculous harem ideas ever. One guy tutors five sisters, who each fall for him. Though the conclusion is a bit rough, learning about all five girls along the way makes it worth a look.
  • Kaguya-sama Love is War: If you don’t mind a bit of frustrating “will they, won’t they,” this is the by far the funniest romance anime of all time.
  • Tonikaku: Fly Me to the Moon: Most series end just as the romance is getting started, but not this series. It begins with the couple getting married, so it has a refreshing look at newlywed life in anime.
  • My Love Story: The seemingly innocent girl and the massive dude may seem like the oddest couple ever in anime, but they will sell you on their relationship if you give it a few episodes.
  • Your Lie in April: This is the series to watch if you want to cry basically every episode. The complicated relationship between the two leads is accentuated with the gorgeous music and animation throughout.
  • Rent a Girlfriend: Sure, the lead character, Kazuya, can be insufferable at times. But if you get past this, you will find the actual best girl on this entire list with Chizuru Mizuhara. She carries this entire series by herself. And Kazuya improves as a character as time goes on as well.
  • My Dress Up Darling: Cosplay and romance, what’s not to love? Both main characters are genuinely likable in this series, which is rare. But the real draw is their connection through cosplay, which looks so good in this style.
  • Yuri on Ice: This is the romance series that got me to finally watch a sports anime. The romance between Yuri and Victor is the kind that will have you smiling with joy constantly. Plus, the soundtrack is unmatched.
  • Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai: Don’t let the bunny girl clips and memes fool you, this series is the real deal. It has a gripping premise of the main character helping each girl with their usually gut-wrenching social problem. And the romance at its core is just the icing on top.
